Apple "Donuts"


Oh Wow my kitchen smelled amazing while cooking these!  I love fall because with fall brings apples! I love traditional apple cider donuts, who doesn't? But, these are not the best for a healthy dessert.  I decided to make a faux donut using apple slices that resemble donuts.  These Apple "donuts" are a delicious and healthy treat!





Servings: 8  Size: 1 apple ring  Calories: 41 Fat: 2.5g*  Carbs: 9g**  Fiber: 1.5g  Sugar: 5.2g***  Protein: 1.2g Sodium: 19mg
Healthy Facts: No cholesterol, low sodium, High in Manganese

Ingredients:

  • 1 large apple
  • 1/4 cup oatmeal
  • 1/4 cup nuts
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp. raw honey
  • 1 tsp. flaxseed meal
  • 1.5 tsp. water
Get Cooking:



Cut apple into slices.  Remove core on each apple slice, set aside.  In food processor grind nuts, oatmeal, flaxseed meal, cinnamon and ginger until flour like consistency pour onto a plate.  In a bowl blend honey and water together.  Now, take each apple slice and dredge in honey than oatmeal one each side to form a 'breading'.  Place slices onto a baking pan and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes flip the apples over and bake an additional 10 minutes or until crisp. Yum! Yum!


* This is good fat from the nuts. 
**The carbs are complex carbs from the apple.
***This is higher in sugar due to the fructose in the apple and the honey.
