I found a Food Pyramid that I really like. This is how I think we should focus our meals for a balanced and healthy body!
Of course your body is made up roughly 70 % of water. Therefore it makes perfect sense to have water being the base of the pyramid! :) Try and drink 8 glasses a day! Next Vegetables are the second tier. This is perfect. No longer are grains and carbohydrates making up the bulk of your meals. Vegetables are water based loaded with vitamins and minerals so it is just logical that your diet should consist mainly of these. As followed of course protein and fruits are necessary. Lastly fats in small amounts. Your body needs fat for fuel. The body actually burns fat quicker than sugar, which comes from grains. Even when fat is stored from eating too much of it, the body will first resort to this storage over the sugar storage to burn when in need. Fats are great for the brain and nervous system so do not leave these healthy fats out when trying to lose weight. Healthy fats include: avocado, fat from meat and fish, nuts, flaxseed and coconut oil. I love this improved Food Pyramid and hope it helps.
